Top Iran chess player Sara Khadem exiled for refusing headscarf – BBC News

Iranian chess player, Sara Khadem, who removed her headscarf at an international tournament is living in exile in southern Spain.

The 25-year-old said it was the least she could do, given the sacrifices protestors in Iran were making.

Women in Iran are required to wear headscarves in public, even when abroad.

But a few are choosing not to, in support of the women and girls who are protesting inside the country, following the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in September.
