US President Donald Trump has said he will meet the Russian leader Vladimir Putin “very shortly” to discuss plans to end the war in Ukraine.
Trump told reporters that a deal to end the war in Ukraine would involve an exchange of territory, saying: "It’s very complicated. But we’re going to get some (territory) back, and we’re going to get some switched. There’ll be some swapping of territories to the betterment of both”.
The suggestion is certain to raise alarm in Ukraine, which continues to insist that it must retain all its sovereign territory and there must be a complete withdrawal of Russian forces from its soil under any peace agreement.
