Donald Trump should face criminal charges over the assault on the US Capitol in January 2021 – that’s the conclusion of the US congressional committee that’s been investigating the attack.
The House Committee found that the former President instigated the attack by his supporters and provided “aid and comfort” to the rioters in violation of federal laws.
Members of the Committe said there is evidence to prosecute Mr Trump on charges including inciting, assisting and aiding and insurrection.
Their unanimous vote was a dramatic end to the 18 month inquiry into the events of 6 January 2021 and the chaotic final days of the Trump presidency.
The US Justice Department must now decide whether to pursue formal charges against Mr Trump
