Turkey earthquake: Pressure on government one year on since country’s deadliest quake | BBC News

Turkey’s President Erdoğan is expected to revisit the areas impacted by the country’s deadliest earthquake, on the first anniversary of the disaster.

The earthquake killed a total of 53,000 people after it hit southeastern Turkey on 6 February 2023.

One year on, one third of survivors are still displaced or homeless according to figures from Save The Children.

Pressure remains on the Turkish government to help rebuild some areas after the quake destroyed 85% of infrastructure in the region, with some streets still covered in rubble from collapsed buildings.
