UK foreign secretary urges immediate ceasefire in Gaza during Israel visit | BBC News

David Lammy has called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during his first visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories as foreign secretary.

During talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian Authority PM Mohammad Mustafa on Sunday, the newly appointed minister also urged the release of all hostages held in Gaza and an increase in the flow of aid to the territory.

"I’m here to push for a ceasefire," he said. "The loss of life over the last few months… is horrendous. It has to stop."

It comes after the Hamas-run health ministry said 80 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes in the last 24 hours.

Israel said its air force targeted a number of what it called terrorists operating in the area.
