UK government unveils new extremism definition after free speech concern | BBC News

A new definition of extremism has been unveiled by the UK government, with Communities Secretary Michael Gove naming five groups to be assessed against it.

The new definition will apply to – but not criminalise – groups promoting an ideology based on "violence, hatred or intolerance".

But some groups and MPs have criticised the move – saying it could risk free speech or lead to unfair treatment.
