UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has called Reform UK’s plans to make some legal migrants reapply for visas “racist and “immoral”.
He was speaking during a live interview on Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg, on the first day of Labour’s party conference.
Reform had announced last week it would abolish the right of migrants to qualify for permanent settlement in the UK after five years, if the party wins the next election.
In the interview, Starmer also said he understands the public are "frustrated" at the time taken to deliver the change he promised – and there is "a lot of hard work to do”.
He is hoping to rally public support after new opinion polls suggest Labour is trailing Reform UK and amid speculation Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham could mount a leadership challenge.
