UK red kites to be flown to Spain to help population – BBC News


Red kite birds are being sent from England to Spain to help rescue the country’s dwindling population.

The birds of prey were almost wiped out in the UK, but numbers picked up after a reintroduction programme in the 1990s.

That initiative saw red kites transported the other way – from Spain to England.

The BBC’s environment correspondent Helen Briggs reports.
