The UN Secretary General is calling for immediate economic help for Afghanistan in a bid to avert a humanitarian disaster.
Leaders of the G20 nations are meeting virtually on Tuesday to discuss a worsening economic situation in the country.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the Afghan people cannot be made to suffer "collective punishment" because of the Taliban, adding that "people should not die of hunger in any circumstance".
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the EU is proposing an €1bn Afghan support package to help "avert a major humanitarian and socio-economic collapse" in the country.
