Unprecedented child deaths facing Somalia due to drought, UNICEF warns – BBC News

Somalia is "facing the death of children on a scale not seen in half a century", a UNICEF spokesperson warned.

A child is admitted to a health facility for treatment of severe acute malnutrition “every single minute of every single day”, he said.

The current drought is the result of five failed rainy seasons and is affecting nearly half of Somalia’s population.

Pressure is now mounting on authorities to formally declare famine.
