President Joe Biden and Donald Trump have both swept aside challengers and are all but certain to be their party’s candidates in the US Presidential election in November.
Mr Trump’s last Republican rival, Nikki Haley, has ended her campaign after he won overwhelming supportin the Super Tuesday primaries. President Biden also swept the board for the Democrat nomination.
The results fire the starting gun for the 2024 campaign proper, a rematch of the last presidential election between the two men in 2020.
It comes as opinion polls suggest that most Americans have strong reservations about both candidates.
