US government shutdown enters day 34 | BBC News

US President Donald Trump says it’s down to Democrats to reopen the US government as the shutdown enters its 34th day.

In an interview with CBS News’ 60 Minutes programme, the President described Democrats as "crazed lunatics" and offered no plans to fill the gaps between them and the Republicans on issues such as healthcare costs.

Republicans and Democrats could not agree to pass a bill funding government services past 1 October, when the previous federal budget expired.

In the US system, Congress must agree a spending plan to send to the president to be signed into law.
