US Secretary of State Marco Rubio visits Israel in aftermath of Qatar strikes | BBC News

United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has arrived in Israel, where he is set to meet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

It comes as tensions mount in the Middle East over the Israeli attack on Qatar last week, with an emergency session of the Arab-Islamic summit set for Monday in Doha.

Rubio’s trip comes after US President Donald Trump criticised Israel over the "brazen and failed" attack on Hamas leaders in the Qatari capital.

Netanyahu has defended the operation, saying that killing senior Hamas officials would remove the “main obstacle” to ending the war.
