Il fuoriclasse olandese della Alpecin-Fenix batte in volata Biniam Girmay (Intermarchè Wanty Gobert Materiaux) e Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious), terzo approfittando della caduta dell’australiano Caleb Ewan a pochi metri dal traguardo. Van Der Poel è dunque la prima maglia rosa dell’edizione numero 105 del Giro. Sesto posto per il grande favorito per la classifica finale Richard Carapaz, mentre Diego Ulissi è ottavo davanti ad Andrea Vendrame. Domani è in programma la seconda frazione in Ungheria della corsa Rcs, una cronometro individuale di 9,2 chilometri tra le strade di Budapest.
