In 1943, a few hundred Jewish fighters rose up against the German army as it began its final push to erase all traces of Jewish life in the Polish capital of Warsaw.
The 63-day rebellion was organised by the Polish resistance to liberate the city from Nazi occupation.
Presidents and Holocaust survivors and their descendants are commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising on Wednesday.
