Why did Trump say Cuba is next? | The Global Story

A Russian-owned tanker carrying 730,000 barrels of crude oil has docked in Cuba, ending a near-total fuel blockade by the United States on the communist-run island.

The tanker’s arrival is the first crude oil shipment to dock in one of Cuba’s ports since early January.

It follows a softening in Washington’s oil blockade, after President Trump said last weekend that he had "no problem" with countries sending fuel to Cuba.

The US president also suggested last week that he expects to soon have the “honour” of “taking Cuba, in some form”. He added “Whether I free it, take it—I think I can do anything I want with it.”

Asma Khalid and Tristan Redman speak to the BBC’s Will Grant, who has recently returned from the island, to discuss what Trump wants in Cuba, and whether the Cuban Revolution can survive its biggest test in decades.
