Why India’s fishermen ‘feel forgotten’ during country’s election campaign | BBC News


India is in the midst of its six-week election period, where almost one billion people are eligible to vote.

About 28 million people in the country rely on fishing for their livelihood. In the coastal state of Kerala, it’s one of the biggest industries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have been campaigning in the region.

Fishermen in the region have said they feel forgotten during the election campaign.
