The International Whaling Organisation has issued its first-ever extinction alert over the critically endangered vaquita porpoise.
The organisation says there are only around 10 of the marine mammals left.
The porpoises, found only in the Gulf of California in Mexico, have been driven to extinction as a result of entanglement in fishing nets known as “gillnets.”
