The US state of North Carolina has voted to override its governor’s veto of a ban on most abortions after 12 weeks.
It cuts the window for abortion in the state down from 20 weeks, will now take effect on 1 July.
A lot of women travel to North Carolina from nearby states to get an abortion because restrictions have been historically stronger in neighbouring states, and after the veto was overturned, protesters in the statehouse chanted “shame”.
