Russia threatened by West with sanctions over Ukraine – BBC News

The US and UK have threatened Russia with immediate sanctions after the country sent troops into eastern Ukraine.

It followed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that Russia recognises two rebel-held regions in eastern Ukraine, Donetsk and Luhansk, as independent states.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he would unveil a "first barrage" of economic sanctions against Russia later today.

Mr Johnson said there was "a lot more we are going to do" if a full-scale invasion of the country takes place.

Meanwhile, the European Union is also considering sanctions against Russia.
