The BBC has uncovered how a culture of complicity and denial conceals the true scale of sex abuse by Catholic priests in Italy.
Despite having the highest number of priests of any country, and the seat of the Catholic Church in its backyard, Italy keeps no official statistics on clerical sex abuse and there’s been no public inquiry.
The BBC has seen documents that lay out the extent of abuse and cover up by the Catholic Church and the Italian state.
